So the first proper night of spelling homework - yes it's been a while - 2 weeks of gastro and week of hospital will delay all best laid plans.
Oh my.
It is bad, very bad. T had trouble with all 'wh' words, does, coming, anything with a dipthong (paint, learn, teach, etc) and goodness knows what else. I really didn't realise.
And the hardest thing - was how much he dreaded doing the sentences with me, got so frustrated at himself and really it was awful.
I am going to need all the patience and fortitude Suzuki Piano has taught me to overcome this hurdle. But it is a big mountain.
I am going to sit with his spelling/sight words and concoct some sentences that use as many of the words as possible and just go through them again and again - just like piano. If I can teach piano, I can teach spelling. Some Dr Suzuki quotes to sustain me:
"There is no born genius. Education is the way to develop ability."
"Good or evil, beauty or ugliness, daily behavior itself becomes one’s flesh and blood before one realizes it. It becomes habit through repetition."
"Don’t hurry don’t rest. Without stopping, without haste, carefully taking one step at a time will surely get you there."
"Everyone can improve. With this belief I have advanced my ability one step forward."
And most important of all, for my darling T:
"When Love is deep, much can be accomplished."
Hasn't he got a beautiful face? Thank you Dr Suzuki
