Here is a proud boy winning his 7 Year District Swimming Champion trophy at 40th Annual Southside Carnival today at Morningside State School!
He won last year the 6 year champion, but this year it was much more competitive and all the races were close. T won the freestyle and breaststroke events, then came third in the backstroke and butterfly.
It is a lovely carnival as all podium finishers get a medal and there is an engraver on site. So T had his event, time and name put on each of his medal, like last year.
T has an excellent dive and start, and his freestyle and breaststroke were strong. His back stroke was a bit lazy as he forgot to kick, and to be honest it was lucky he didn't drown in the last event, the fly, he was so tired by then after a huge weekend of sport.
Yesterday he played cricket (and got a caught and bowled - am such a proud cricketing mum!). He didn't bat as the storms ended play. Then the Holland Park Carnival yesterday. And then five hours of Southside Carnival today. Phew!
Today there was a wonderful team spirit across the Norman Park Swim Club. Also there were two boys from T's cricket team as well swimming, including one boy whose Dad is assistant coach with D of the cricket team. This Dad also volunteered from 7am this morning to man the bbq and was there until 4pm for his Swim Club - Morningside.
Here is a picture of the Norman Park Swim Club age champions who took out 7 year champion (T, on right), 8 years champion on left, and 9 years champion in the middle! What an achievement for such a small swim club!
All the three of these boys' Dads volunteer every week at the swim club - Head Marshall, Club President and D, BBQ Convener. It is so true that when the whole family is involved the kids get so much more out of the club.
This week was W's kindergarten orientation. The kindy is a C&K affiliated kindy, but I didn't realise until this week, that in fact the kindy is run by the parents - it is an associated organisation. And as the outgoing President articulated, as well as my other good friend who was head of fundraising for last year said - kids love to know you are involved in their worlds.
THIS is why we sign up to do these things - for the cricket team, for the swim club, for school (literacy rotations weekly), for the kindy (I am doing fundraising support next year), etc. The message kids get when you are involved in their activities is that you care enough to devote time to them. And that these activities, that are important to them, are also important to you.
So now we are ALL exhausted from such a big weekend - and still no baby either! Got to be close - am getting painful Braxton Hicks very often, and various other "too much information" symptoms of a pending birth! Will keep you posted.
