So I have alluded to him and hinted at how wonderful he is - so let me make it offical - I have a new man in my kitchen! Mr Gray (sic) aka my Thermomix.
It is very hard to describe exactly why this machine makes cooking so much quicker and more enjoyable. It really has to be seen to be understood - which is one of the reasons why the only way you can buy one is from a demonstrator (who comes to your house and makes six meals for you in about an hour).
It replaces a blender, a vitamix, a cake mixer, a Bamix, a rice cooker, an electric frypan, a steamer, your food scales. In fact I made about $300 on ebay selling all said items.
For those wanting quick meals - it is a superb one-pot cook machine. You can make a sauce, cook your rice, poach your chicken and steam your vegetables - all at the same time, without touching it! Last night I made a coconut satay chicken with rice and vegetables that was so yummy. It took about 8 minutes of my time (mainly walking from pantry/fridge to counter on which Mr Gray lounges) to set it up. Then 25 minutes cooking time, while I cleaned up kitchen from the day, including unstack diswasher, put away dried crockery etc and tidied family room etc. Then when Mr Gray called out to me, I called the kids and they sat at the counter while I plated it up (and let it cool down for kid temperature in doing so). And voila - super healthy, super yummy meal.
For those wanting healthier, non-additive eating - you can cook everything from scratch. I love this - as generally (95% of the time) I can find a Mr Gray recipe on the web and I can cook it because I have every one of the base ingredients to do so. I have made my own vegetable stock, butter, mayonnaise, tomato puree, coconut butter, butter milk, almond milk, garam masala.
For those who love cooking and experimenting - it is a joy. There are so many recipes on the internet and in the cookbooks for standard recipes as well as new ones. You simply google, for example, ""apple crumble thermomix"" and you find a recipe designed for Mr Gray. On Saturday I had a cook-a-thon as my in-laws were coming for dinner specifically to see what Mr Gray could do. I made - vegetable stock (I was out), butter, shortcrust pastry (2 min!), hommus (less than 2min!), lemon bit of the lemon meringue pie and the meringue (and used the shortcrust pastry to put it all together - D said it was outstanding and it was!), chocolate cake (no sugar, no dairy, no gluten - so yummy and easy) for Tom's lunches this week, gluten- free bread (my most successful to date) and muesli. Holy moly! All in about 3 hours! So if you love cooking, this machine allows you to do everything so much more easily and quickly! Very rewarding.
Apparently all the top chefs (like Tetsuya) have banks of ten in their restaurant kitchens. Each replaces an apprentice apparently! It is awesome for them I imagine for making sauces, jus, etc as you throw the ingredients in, it cooks and stirs, then chops and keeps warm until need.
The Lemon Meringue Pie
The gluten -free bread.
Family dinner of steamed fish, vegetables, quinoa and white wine sauce (so healthy - to compensate for the treat Lemon Meringue Pie). See little Sammy - he is now one of us at the table. He had the fish and vegies - he loved them.
So friends, I will be emailing you to see if you would kindly have me over to your place so I can make you dinner and dessert and salad and dip on Mr Gray! Just so I can practice my demonstrating and to show you why I like it! If you invite two or three people I don't know then I can see if theyr or their friends want to have me over, etc. I hope to move out of my immediate friendship circle sooner rather than later so I am not like an over eager Amway person.
I really do love my Mr Gray - so showing others will be a pleasure with no need for a hard sell by me. In my eyes, it really is a product that sells itself. I just get the pleasure of doing lots of cooking and eating at other people's houses.
